Hundreds of Rochester teens to attend NYSSCPA's 'World of Accounting' event

On Nov. 21, more than 250 high school students in the Rochester area will attend theNew York State Society of Certified Public AccountantsRochester Chapter's "World of Accounting" event, to be held at the HSBC building in Rochester.

The half-day program will feature a variety of speakers, including CPAs, controllers, and IRS Criminal Investigation Division special agents, to introduce the profession as a career choice available in public, private, and government settings.

“This event has been very popular since its launch in 2003,” said Tom Zuber, a member of the chapter’s World of Accounting Planning Committee and partner at Raymond F. Wager CPA, P.C., in a statement. “The accounting industry remains a great career choice because of the variety, growth and diversity of work opportunities it can provide. We hope to share that with the students at our event.”

Featured CPAs set to speak during the event include Home Properties Inc. Vice President Ken Hall; Cochran, Cochran & Yale Executive Recruiter Cheryl Yawman; Toshiba Business Solutions Controller Chris Martusewicz; PharmaSmart International Inc. Controller Matt Bryant; and IRS Criminal Investigation Division Special Agent Scott Ashlaw.

“No matter whether you’re interested in sports, entertainment, law enforcement, health care, government, real estate or technology, there are a wide variety of accounting jobs and clients to choose from,” Zuber continued.

Participating high schools include:  Aquinas Institute of Rochester, Brockport High School, Fairport High School, Greece Arcadia High School, Pittsford Mendon, Pittsford Sutherland, Wayne Central High School, Webster Schroeder and Webster Thomas.
