Suffolk University offers accelerated M.S. in taxation for attorneys

Suffolk University’s Sawyer Business School in Boston is launching an accelerated master of science in taxation degree for attorneys, which offers lawyers the opportunity to gain advanced expertise in taxation from an accounting perspective.

The program is designed for attorneys who want to pursue careers in public accounting, industry, government or the law and might also want to become a CPA.

“This program offers attorneys an opportunity to obtain tax compliance and planning skills from leading tax accountants and CPAs,” stated professor James Angelini, director of graduate programs in taxation. “They will learn the language of business, which is accounting, and how it specifically applies to taxation. In combining this knowledge about taxation with their legal training and experience, attorneys will be able to service a wide variety of clients and will be valuable members of any firm.”

The program may be completed in one year, full-time, or two years, part-time, with the requirement that students take nine to 13 courses. Applications are now being accepted for fall 2014.
