Survey reveals Gen Z's apathy to retirement saving

Nearly 40 percent of teenagers and young adults, aged 13 to 22 don’t believe they need to save for retirement, according to new studies from TD Ameritrade and PNC.

The survey showed that members of Generation Z expect to receive an inheritance from their parents, though, according to the study conducted of 2,001 U.S. online survey respondents, only 16 percent of parents plan to provide one.

A separate PNC study also revealed that parents are struggling to save for their own retirement. Among adults with at least $100,000 in investable assets, 58 percent reported that leaving an inheritance is not their primary concern. A scant 2 percent, in fact, cited this generational passage of wealth as a primary financial goal.
