Wake Forest University boasts highest CPA exam pass rate

December 27, 2011

Students of Wake Forest University’s School of Business achieved the highest pass rate in the nation on the CPA exam, standing out among the 2,000 colleges and universities that currently enroll candidates.

Wake Forest students have achieved this top ranking nine times since the school started offering the Master of Science in accountancy degree in 1997, more than any other university in the same time period.

Recently reported in the 2011 edition of Candidate Performance on the Uniform CPA Exam, Wake Forest earned a 96 percent pass rate among those who have not yet earned an advanced degree, topping the next closest university’s 88 percent. Nationally, the pass rate for the same period was 55 percent.

“The MSA program at Wake Forest is known for its rigorous curriculum,” said Jack Wilkerson, academic director of Wake Forest accountancy programs, in a statement. “High-caliber students are attracted to the program and they leave well prepared to serve the profession.”

Students participate in for-credit internships during busy season, as well as a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program to provide tax preparation services to low-income individuals. One hundred percent of the students also accept job offers before graduation.

“The accountancy faculty, led by Jack Wilkerson, should be commended for their personal dedication to the success of our students both inside and outside of the classroom,” said Charles Iacovou, senior associate dean of faculty at the Wake Forest School of Business, in a statement. “This result would not have been achievable without the focused efforts of our professors and students and the support of our staff, alumni and corporate partners.”
