Weaver names Buckner International Charity of Choice

The Weaver Private Foundation named Buckner International its Charity of Choice for the fiscal year 2013-14, contributing $50,000 to the Buckner Children and Family Programs in the communities where Southwest accounting firm Weaver has offices.

Weaver employees also participated in volunteer activities to support local programs for Buckner, a global, faith-based ministry dedicated to transforming the lives of orphans, vulnerable children, families and elders.

For this project, those Texas-wide programs included: Buckner Villas in Austin, Buckner Children’s Home and Buckner Center for Humanitarian Aid in Dallas, the Mobile Food Pantry and Agape Meal in Fort Worth, Parkway Place and Aldine Family Hope Center in Houston, Buckner Foster Care and Adoption in Midland and Odessa, and Buckner Children and Family Services in San Antonio.

“A goal of the Weaver Private Foundation is to promote community involvement by providing enriching opportunities for our employees. As a firm we came together to serve each of our communities,” stated Andy Freundlich, assurance partner and a foundation board member.

Employees collectively contributed more than 380 volunteer hours to the local programs.

In Austin, the Weaver volunteers assembled patio furniture and planted flower bulbs and trees at Buckner Villas retirement home. In Dallas, volunteers packed away Christmas toys and decorations at Buckner Children’s Home and sorted, packed and processed items for international distribution at Buckner Center for Humanitarian Aid. Volunteers set up tables and organized food at the Mobile Food Pantry and assisted serving food at Agape Meal in Fort Worth to about 175 homeless individuals. In Houston, Weaver volunteers played games with and served a barbeque lunch to Parkway Place Retirement Community residents, as well as organized and sorted donated items at the Aldine Family Hope Center. In Midland and Odessa, volunteers toured the Petroleum Museum with Buckner Children and Family Services participants and then served lunch. Near Buckner Children and Family Services in San Antonio, volunteers covered a playground with fresh mulch, cleaned it of graffiti, and planted flowerbeds near the Buckner Food Pantry.

“Weaver is pleased to support Buckner International and each Buckner program in the communities where we live and work,” said Tommy Lawler, managing partner and CEO. “When our employees participate in hands-on activities, they can see how the Foundation gives back to their own community.”

“Buckner is grateful for the support from Weaver and its employees, who provided help and hope to the people we serve all over Texas,” said Albert Reyes, Buckner International president and CEO. “Thanks to their time and generosity, Buckner is able to serve even more vulnerable children, families and seniors.”
