WNDE staff volunteer at food bank

Irvine, Calif.-based White Nelson Diehl Evans CPA firm staff recently spent a morning sorting food at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.

The 28-strong WNDE team helped the food bank’s collection and distribution efforts, which reach 470 member charities in the community. Since its establishment 30 years ago, the Food Bank has distributed 272 million pounds of food to the needy.

Joe Schoeningh, on the Food Bank’s original board of directors in 1984 and now director of special projects, welcomed the WNDE volunteers to sort thousands of pounds of carrots and tape and label cereal boxes for distribution.

“It was a great opportunity to do something good in the community,” stated WNDE tax manager and participant Erin Johnson.  “It also gave us the opportunity to enjoy each other’s company outside of the office.”

WNDE’s donated staff time is part of the firm’s commitment to community charity work every two months, with an office clothing drive for Women Helping Women the next scheduled event.

“Orange County is known for its affluent communities, and WNDE has been fortunate to share in the success of our prosperous society,” said WNDE managing partner Dave Doran in a statement. “Therefore, we’re pleased to donate our time to organizations such as the Food Bank, allowing us the chance to give a little something back to the less fortunate in our community.”
