CPA Accused of Fleecing Elderly Couple

A Florida accountant and a stock broker have been arrested and charged with scamming an elderly pair of sisters out of their savings.

Tyrone Javellana, 45, a CPA based in Hallandale, Fla., and financial adviser Cynthia Franke, 48, have been charged with third-degree felonies for persuading the two women, Mary Teris and Josephina Troisi, both in their 90s, to write checks for up to $29,000 for financial planning and consulting services. They also gained power of attorney and allegedly drew sums of as much as $100,000 from their bank account, according to the Miami Herald.

Many of the checks were processed through the bank accounts of Javellana, Franke and their estate planning group. Estate planning would be a kind term to use for what the pair is accused of doing to the 95- and 93-year-old siblings.
