Turns out employees of the federal government are high on the list of tax delinquents, according to a new report.
Documents from the Internal Revenue Service show that 276,300 federal employees and retirees owed the IRS $3,042,200,000 in 2008, according to Washington, D.C., radio station
The Treasury Department had the best compliance rate. The non-compliance rate for IRS employees was just 0.76 percent, a better showing than in 2007 when the noncompliance rate was 0.89 percent.
Nearly every federal agency had some tax delinquents, but the one with the most of them was the U.S. Postal Service, in which 28,913 employees owed a collective $297,933,756.
Then again, maybe the checks just got lost in mail.
