SEC Reporting Skills Will Be in Demand Next Year

Staffing company Experis is predicting that SEC reporting will be one of the hot job skills for 2012.

Rebecca Albarelli, global practice leader for finance and accounting at the company, sees more companies this year and next spending money to deal with the regulatory changes coming from the Securities and Exchange Commission. “There continues to be a lot of those changes,” she said.  Albarelli also expects to see demand for those who are familiar with the converging International Financial Reporting Standards and U.S. GAAP. “Anybody with that type of knowledge would be highly in demand,” she told me.

Another hot area is implementation of enterprise resource planning systems.

“Any kind of project management skills or experience within ERP or finance transformation would be greatly in demand,” she said, also pointing to those with Six Sigma and Lean Sigma training.

Experience with M&A and IPOs will be another plus in the job market next year, she expects, especially if the economy improves. But there’s an important caveat, she noted: “If the economy tanks again, those two will also tank.”
