IRS Picks TaxSlayer for VITA and TCE Programs

The Internal Revenue Service has selected TaxSlayer as the new tax software provider for the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the Elderly programs, starting with the 2017 tax filing season.

TaxSlayer recently announced it was selected for the contract on October 30 following a competitive bidding process for the five-year IRS contract, which includes four one-year renewal options. TaxSlayer and the other bidders had to submit written proposals and were subjected to technical evaluations and cost-pricing analyses.

Through the VITA and TCE programs, IRS-trained volunteers and accounting students provide free electronic tax preparation for taxpayers who are low-income, elderly, disabled or who have limited English language proficiency in over 9,500 locations worldwide.
