Cherry Bekaert Hires Walker as Partner

James Walker has joined Cherry Bekaert LLP as a partner in the firm’s tax practice based in Richmond, Virginia. Walker will focus on meeting the taxation and growth needs of closely-held businesses, professional practices and high-net-worth individuals. He will also offer guidance in specialties like estate and trust matters, pass-thru entities, and entrepreneurial services.

Staff members from Walker's former practice will join the Cherry Bekaert’s downtown Richmond office. Cherry Bekaert plans to use Walker's previous location in the Innsbrook area of Richmond's West End as an additional location from which Walker and Cherry Bekaert's staff will continue to work with clients. Nearly 600 of Walker's clients will be transferred to Cherry Bekaert's client roster.

"This is an exciting time for not only our staff, but the clients we serve,” Walker said in a statement. “Through Cherry Bekaert, we will be part of a larger, growing firm that gives our existing clientele access to additional resources and specialty talent."

In addition, Walker's staff and the addition of the Innsbrook office will provide continued expansion of our tax capabilities and strengthen our connections to Richmond's business community."

Walker received a Bachelor of Science in Commerce at the University of Virginia. A licensed Certified Public Accountant, he is linked to professional organizations such as the AICPA, Private Companies Practice Section and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, where he serves as the Board Chairman of the Political Action Committee and was the Past Chairman of the Board and Past President of the Richmond chapter. An active member of the community, Walker is also vice chair of the Board for Children Incorporated.
