Frank Ryan is literally on the move. The CPA, consultant and Business Learning Institute Thought leader has set out on a 2,826 mile cross-country journey where he will walk from San Diego, Calif. to Ocean City, Md.
Ryan is hoping to raise awareness for Good Shepherd Services, a non-profit organization that provides services to teens and young adults with developmental disabilities. Ryan has been a volunteer for the organization for 30 years and is currently the president of the board of directors.
“Consistency of treatment for these children is just as important as the treatment itself,” Ryan said in a statement. “We wanted to be advocates for children who may not have anyone else advocating for them.”
The trek started on March 15 and will take Ryan through 14 states in approximately 100 days. He plans to accomplish this mission by walking 32 miles per day. Ryan will take in the scenery of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.
Ryan started training about 15 months ago and managed to walk 2,000. He decided not to have support vehicles accompany him on his journey as he carries 50 pounds of supplies in his backpack and another 60 to 80 pounds of food and water, which he will drag behind him.
