James Hogan has joined WTAS as managing director in the firm’s national tax office in Washington, D.C.

Hogan is leaving the IRS Office of chief counsel where he was the branch chief in the Pass-through and Special Industries Division. He was responsible for all matters relating to estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax issues.

Hogan has more than 35 years of tax experience in both government and private sectors.
“Jim brings a wealth of experience and knowledge and is a nationally recognized leader in estate and gift tax law. He is an outstanding addition to our team,” Ellen MacNeil, leader of the WTAS National Tax Office, said in a statement.

Hogan is the third managing director to join the firm’s national tax office since June 2013.
“Jim’s addition is part of a ‘breakaway’ strategy for our Private Client Service practice. His addition demonstrates our continued commitment to quality and technical competence,” said Mark Vorsatz, WTAS CEO.

Hogan is an instructor for the Georgetown University Law School Graduate Tax Program and he has been a frequent speaker at the District of Columbia Bar, California Bar and AICPA, on the subject of estate tax planning.
Hogan received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Saint Bonaventure University, his Master of Business Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his Juris Doctorate from Catholic University.
