Talk about killjoys. The state of Maine is getting set to impose taxes on clowns, jugglers, ventriloquists, DJs, balloon rides and other forms of entertainment.
Thats just one of the many taxes under consideration as states across the country are trying to make up for lost revenues by imposing taxes on services of various kinds. That includes taxes on haircuts, dating services, garbage pickup, legal advice, taxidermy, scooter repair and other services, as The New York Times reported over the weekend.
A great many states already tax some services, but the breadth of service taxes is likely to expand this year, just like the blimp rides that Maine residents could be paying an extra tax on this year.
