MASSACHUSETTS

AAFCPAs, Boston, released the results of its inaugural CFO survey in a report, “Behind Every Thriving Organization is a High-Functioning CFO.” The report, conducted in collaboration with The Boston Chapter of Financial Executives International, includes analysis from AAFCPAs partners. Some key findings from the 250 CFOs and senior financial executives respondents: 70 percent felt as though their relationship with their CEO is strong, but 60 percent report some level of difficulty meeting CEO expectations; and 50 percent say their CEO relies on them most heavily for clarifying financial situations, as they are expected to serve as the CEO’s “right hand.” The report is available here.

NEW JERSEY

The New Jersey Society of CPAs, Roseland, released a third component in a three-part series of questions addressing the issues the next governor should focus on, from a CPA perspective. More than 165 NJCPA members made recommendations, including: consolidating municipalities, sharing services, and providing tax credits.

NEW YORK

The Bonadio Group, Rochester, agreed to purchase the nursing home practice of EFPR, Rochester, bringing four EFPR partners and 16 staff members to Bonadio. The four partners, who will work in Bonadio’s Rochester office, are Jennifer Arbore, William McDonald, Robert Nasso and Brett Schrader. Terms of the agreement will not be disclosed.

Deloitte, in partnership with the Call of Duty Endowment, announced the 2017 recipients of the “Call of Duty Endowment Seal of Distinction,” awarded to organizations dedicated to veteran employment. This year's recipients included Goodwill Southern California, Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region, and NextOp, Inc. (Read the full story.)

Rea & Associates, New Philadelphia, and Walthall CPAs, scheduled to merge into Rea Nov. 1, organized a “Paws-To-Paws” campaign to help raise money for The Humane Society of the United States’ disaster relief efforts in response to the hurricanes. The campaign, which ran Sept. 25 to Oct. 6, raised $5,880. (Read the full story.)

Horsey, Buckner & Heffler, which was formed over the summer in Philadelphia and is affiliated with accounting firm Heffler, Radetich & Saitta, announced it is the first midsized CPA firm to have an ownership interest in a minority controlled accounting practice. HBH is hosting an open house on Nov. 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 1515 Market St., Suite 1700, to introduce the firm to the Philadelphia business community.

Elliott Davis, Greenville, announced the winners of its inaugural Impact Awards, honoring employees who embody the core values of the firm, at a firmwide meeting Oct. 27. Nominations in five categories were submitted by peers, and the firm announced the winners in each. In client service, the external winner was Lauren Combs, senior, in Augusta, Ga., and internally, Dianne Watkins, firm controller, Greenville; in innovation, the winner was Tami Corbin, talent development director, Greenville; in leadership, Alan Doak, senior manager, Chattanooga, Tenn.; in mentorship, Joe Poore, senior manager, Greenville; and in community, Tony Caldwell, senior, Greenville.
