Grant Thornton, Chicago, received a perfect score of 100 percent on the 2018 Corporate Equality Index, a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Grant Thornton was one of 609 major U.S. businesses to be recognized with a high score.

INDIANA

Blue & Co., Carmel, announced the winners of the firmwide David Windley Client Service Award, recognizing employees who deliver outstanding service to clients. MASSACHUSETTS

Rodman CPAs president Steve Rodman participated in the Maine AppleCycle bike tour Oct. 14 to raise money for Community Bicycle Center's free afterschool programs for children. Two hundred and fifty cyclists biked the 100-mile tour through four different apple orchards in Southern Maine, raising more than $15,000.

MISSOURI

Anders CPAs + Advisors, St. Louis, helped coach two local startup companies competing in the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Metro East Startup Challenge to second and third place. In the challenge, which Anders sponsored, 15 MESC semi-finalists worked with a group of business mentors and startup advisors on developing their business plan. Joshua Snyder, Anders tax supervisor, worked with Nicole Grimm of Idea Factory Education Services on her business plan from an accounting and tax perspective. Grimm won the second place prize of $6,000 to help grow her business. Anders tax senior manager Adam Prest worked with mother-daughter team Robyn and Emma Starkey of Harvest Market, which won $4,000 in third place, on accounting tax planning opportunities.

The American Institute of CPAs named Anna Maria Cicirello, senior manager with KPMG’s forensic practice in Toronto, as the Forensic and Litigation Services Volunteer of the Year and Michelle Gallagher, owner and operator of Gallagher Valuation & Forensics and principal at Gallagher, Flintoff & Klein in Lansing, Mich., as the Business Valuation Volunteer of the Year, at the AICPA Forensic and Valuation Services Conference in Las Vegas.
