MARYLAND

Kimberly Ellison-Taylor, chairman of the American Institute of CPAs and Baltimore native, was honored by a proclamation by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan recognizing her accomplishments and services on behalf of American’s CPAs. The proclamation was presented by Sen. Brian Feldman, a CPA, during the Maryland Association of CPAs’ annual CPA Day in Annapolis advocacy event January 26, where Ellison-Taylor was also recognized by Maryland’s full House and Senate. Ellison-Taylor is the first Marylander and the fifth woman to serve as AICPA chairman and the first minority man or woman to lead the board of directors.

MICHIGAN

Sarah Jennings, principal in the accounting and outsourced solutions department of Maner Costerisan, Lansing, earned the Certified Association Executive designation from ASAE, a membership organization of more than 21,000 association executives and industry partners.

MINNESOTA

John Langan, chief industry officer of the public sector group of CliftonLarsonAllen, Minneapolis, was elected chair of the firm’s board of directors for 2017, and three new board members were elected to three-year terms: Scott Dietzen, chief practice officer for the Mountain West region; Jen Leary, managing principal of office in Charlotte; and Gregg Draeger, chief practice officer for the Midwest region. Additionally, Matt Claeys, managing principal of office in Dallas, was re-elected to a second term on the CLA board and elected by the board to serve as board secretary for 2017. Other board members currently serving are Bill Petri, managing principal of office in Denver; John Richter, chief strategy officer; Denny Schleper, chief executive officer; and Lori Sims, chief tax officer. Larry Taylor, chief practice officer for the Southwest Region (who recently joined CLA with the Jan. 1, 2017, acquisition of Gallina) has been invited to attend and participate in meetings of the board through 2018.

She has more than 18 years of public accounting and tax experience in the insurance industry. Kevin Matz, CPA, was hired as a partner in the personal client services group in the New York office of Stroock. He comes to the law firm after maintaining his own independent practice for eight years, and will be joined by associate Kadeen Wong. Matz concentrates on domestic and international estate and tax planning, estate administration and related litigation.

Julie Manteria was promoted to director of marketing at UHY Advisors, New York, where she will be responsible for all marketing initiatives for the Northeast and California offices, including New York City, Albany, West Hartford, Conn., and Orange County, Calif.

Michē Needham was named partner of Lumsden & McCormick, Buffalo. With over a decade of experience as a tax professional, she is responsible for development and implementation of tax strategies, planning, compliance and audit issues, and has experience in all areas of U.S. and state tax matters. Lumsden & McCormick also announced none other promotions. In the audit department, Matthew Tower was promoted to manager, Dominic Baranyi was promoted to senior accountant, and Jenna Torella was promoted to senior accountant; in the tax department, Mark Stack was promoted to manager, Megan Morris was promoted to senior accountant, Kevin Smeader was promoted to senior accountant and Angela Vacanti was promoted to senior accountant. In the Brisbane consulting group – computer division, Jonathan Urban was promoted to senior implementation specialist in the nonprofit technology division.
