Stock Options Site Offers Tax Tips

Financial Web site myStockOptions.com has opened an online Tax Center that explains issues related to equity compensation for tax year 2007.

The site explores issues such as the reporting of stock sales on Schedule D, new alternative minimum tax exemption amounts and the effect of stock compensation on the 2008 tax rebate. The Tax Center includes information on the filing and reporting of tax returns that involve nonqualified and incentive stock options, restricted stock, performance shares, stock appreciation rights and employee stock purchase plans.

Annotated illustrations of Form W-2 and Schedule D for restricted stock units and performance shares are also available on the site, as well as information about the rules for estimated taxes with stock compensation, the process for netting capital gains and losses, and the impact of the deferred compensation provisions in Tax Code Section 409A on stock grants.

A section on Reporting Company Stock Sales answers questions on a wide variety of reporting for stock sales, from basic to complex, illustrated with annotated diagrams of the real IRS form. A customized version of the site's content can be licensed and integrated into a company's HR, benefits or compensation portals.
