SIU-Carbondale-2017

Approximately 300 high school and community college students will meet at Southern Illinois University Carbondale this Friday, Feb. 24, for the 19th annual Accounting Challenge, the school recently announced.

Participants from 19 high schools and three community colleges will be competing for college scholarships and other prizes at the event, which is sponsored by SIU's School of Accountancy.

The Accounting Challenge will feature both individual and team competitions in accounting knowledge, skills, and problem-solving. At 9 a.m. Friday morning, participants will undergo an individual academic competition testing their knowledge and skills. Winners will receive certificates and scholarships valued up to $500 (granted they attend SIU and are in accounting major). The team challenge will begin at 10:30 a.m., wherein participants are tasked with accomplishing a specific task that isn't revealed until the start of the activity. The event concludes with an awards presentation at 1 p.m.
