The profession's confidence in the U.S. economy is growing even more strongly than before, according to the March edition of Accounting Today’s monthly Accountants Confidence Index.

After both breaching positive territory the month before, both the 3-Month and 6-Month ACI readings for March rose even further into expansionary territory. The 3-Month ACI came in at 52.39, up from 50.01 -- and comfortably above the 50 mark that indicates the dividing line between expectations of growth and expectations of contraction. The 6-Month ACI, meanwhile, hit 53.47, up from last month's 51.53.

Most of the index's components continued to rise, and all were in positive territory (above 50) –- with the sole exception of the panelists’ growth expectations for the U.S. economy as a whole.

More details are available in this month’s online report and in our video Executive Summary.

Created in partnership with ADP, the ACI is a monthly economic indicator that leverages the insights of accountants into the strength and prospects of businesses in the U.S.

Great article! Now does this upward moving trend increase probability for accountants to get hired?

In keeping with your thought pusher, I would think it would be the one I would most ignore. Sort of like believing what the board of realtors think. The year the real estate market crashed, they predicted only a three to five percent increase in Southern California, one of major meltdown locations in the country. Nice call, hope they bet it that way.

Since a very large majority of accountants call themselves either conservative or very conservative, they are not the folks I go to for a vision of the present or future.

And the best advise I ever received, when I was a newly minted accountant, was don't ever put an accountant or lawyer in charge of running an operating business unless you want a higher chance of failure than would otherwise be the case. Certainly there are exceptions, but they are few.

I think we can safely file this story under "Who Cares?" Seems to me accountants' confidence is more of a lagging indicator than a leading indicator. And why the annoying ad? First the link takes you to the story for a second before changing the page to an ad you have to skip to get back to the story.
