The California Society of CPAs presented a number of awards: Bill Torres, managing partner of Bill Torres & Co., received the Public Service Award for 2012, in part for his long service on the board of managers of the Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA; Nancy Chandler, a retired vice president at Kellogg & Andelson Accountancy and past chair of CalCPA, received the Distinguished Service Award for 2012; and accounting professors Dr. Robert Yetman, of the University of California, Davis, and Dr. Mahmoud Nourayi, chair of the Department of Accounting at Loyola Marymount University, were named Outstanding Educators of the Year for 2012, and will receive $3,000 stipends.

 

COLORADO

Jodie Cates has been promoted to director, and Anthony Giordano to senior vice president, at BKD LLP.

 

FLORIDA

Geoff Adams and Marc Feigelson have been promoted to principal at Kaufman, Rossin & Co., Miami, while Dara Green has joined the firm as director of international tax.

Trent Halford has joined UHY Advisors Inc., Atlanta, as director of business development. ... Kenneth Griffin has joined Moore Colson, Atlanta, as senior associate in the lender services practice. ... Bradford C. Dickson, a partner and shareholder with Windham Brannon PC, Atlanta, has received the Meritorious Service Award from the Georgia Society of CPAs for his dedication to the public and the profession. ... KENTUCKY

MARYLAND

Jorge Estrada, senior audit and nonprofit tax manager at Gelman, Rosenberg and Freedman, Bethesda, has been elected treasurer of The Next Step Public Charter School in Washington, D.C. ... Tricia Griffis, an audit senior manager in the Baltimore office of Reznick Group, has graduated from Leadership Frederick County, a nine-month leadership program offered by the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce.

 

MASSACHUSETTS

MISSOURI

PwC US, St. Louis, admitted six professionals from its Missouri market practice into the partnership: Brian Buchanan and Jason Crouch in assurance; Steve Cullimore and Ann Kruse in tax; Brent Papciak in risk assurance; and Michael Paul in the health industries advisory practice.
