Albany Accountant Arthur Place Dies

Accounting firm association PrimeGlobal announced Wednesday that Arthur Place, the managing partner of one of the firms in its association, died on Sunday.

Arthur Place, of Arthur Place & Co. in Albany, N.Y., succumbed to cancer on August 11. Place began practicing public accounting in 1968 and founded Arthur Place & Company in 1980.

Over the years he mentored many accountants and advised many individuals and business owners using a hands-on, creative approach. He was widely known in the Capital Region for being an exceptional accountant and an active member in the community through the many boards he served over the years. In particular, Place was well known for being an outstanding teacher, whether it was through his time as an instructor for the New York State Society of CPAs’ CPA Review, as a developer of his accounting staff, or as an advisor to his clients. He set a tone of honesty and integrity throughout his firm, and encouraged an open and collaborative environment, where employees could grow together.

“It is a sad day in losing Art, but as he would have it, it is with great joy that we remember the life Art lived,” says PrimeGlobal World Board chairman Edward A. Davis in a statement. “He was a longtime member of our great association and he established himself as a consummate professional. Art loved his chosen profession and truly embodied the spirit of our association, establishing deep relationships that extended beyond work and were very personal.  He was loved by all who knew him and was a shining example of getting the most out of life.  He will be missed but he will also be celebrated!”

A member since 1987 in PrimeGlobal, he found the opportunity to learn from others and hear new ideas invaluable. He reportedly made many personal connections over the years with other accountants whose firms were members of the association, and he looked forward to conferences where he could reconnect with the many friends and colleagues he had in the group.

“The sadness of the passing of Arthur ("Art") Place is only mollified by our thoughts and memories of his incredible life,” says PrimeGlobal North American Board chairman Jeffrey M.  Mutnik. “For many years Art traveled extensively to PrimeGlobal events, becoming well known; making friends throughout the world.  Art's joie de vivre should be emulated, as he truly enjoyed what he did, where he did it and whom he did it with. He shall be missed.”

PrimeGlobal said the thoughts and prayers of its member firm partners and staff around the world are with Arthur Place’s wife Suzi and his family.
