H&R Block launched an app for iPhone and Android smartphones Friday with an offer for free federal 1040EZ and state tax preparation and electronic filing through February 29.
The H&R Block At Home smartphone app is free to download. Block said it is guaranteeing free audit support and audit representation, accurate calculations and the maximum tax refund to which taxpayers are entitled.
Using the smartphone app, filers can complete a federal 1040EZ and state return by photographing their W-2 to automatically import data into the app.

Taxpayers filing as single or married filing jointly who do not pay mortgage interest, have no dependents, and earn less than $100,000 last year can generally qualify for the 1040EZ, Block noted. Filers with more complex tax returns can complete a federal 1040 or 1040A form with Block’s iPad tablet app at no cost all season.
