FASB Commemorates FASB@40

The Financial Accounting Foundation and the Financial Accounting Standards Board have launched a new section on the FAF Web site that features audio, transcripts and photos from September’s FASB@40 Conference hosted in New York to commemorate the FASB’s 40th anniversary.

In conjunction with the event, FAF President and CEO Terri S. Polley issued her President’s Desk column, looking back on the past 40 years. The pages reflect on FASB’s past, the present standard-setting process environment, and FASB’s role in the future. Some features of the site include:

• FASB chairman Russell G. Golden’s goals for the future as presented in his closing remarks.

• One-on-one interviews with all of the living former FASB chairmen. Don Kirk, Denny Beresford, Ed Jenkins, Robert Herz and Leslie Seidman share the challenges they faced during their tenure.

• Biographies of the distinguished panel members and their accomplishments as influential leaders in the accounting industry through the years.

• Audio and transcripts from each of the three panel discussions:

o A Look Back addresses important moments in FASB history, including significant standards, the FASB Conceptual Framework, convergence and the FASB Codification

o The Standard-Setting Process addresses issues related to standard setting, including the pros and cons of making changes to U.S. GAAP.

o Future Issues discusses major issues that lie ahead for the FASB and new accounting issues on the horizon.
