CALIFORNIA

ArmaninoLLP, San Ramon, closed all of its offices Thursday, May 23rd, and donated 2200 hours of staff time and sent 272 employees out to volunteer a full day of service to 23 organizations during the firm's "Great Give" day of community service. Employees from Armanino's three Bay Area offices, Portland and Chicago offices took part in painting, gardening, data entry, worked with animals, poured cement, cleared brush, spent time with senior citizens and children and built or finished small structures.

CONNECTICUT

The Financial Accounting Foundation, Norwalk, has published its 2012 Annual Report. The FAF is the independent, private-sector organization responsible for the oversight of the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board. The 2012 Annual Report is available on the FAF website www.accountingfoundation.org, the FASB website at www.fasb.org, and the GASB website at www.gasb.org. FLORIDA

Abacus Worldwide, an international associate of independent accounting, consulting and legal firm, has admitted 15 firms into its membership. … CPAmerica International started to offer its first multi-topic accounting and auditing webinar series on May 22. It will offer a 16-hour series, where experts Thomas Ratcliffe, Ph.D., CPA, CGMA and J. Russ Madray, CPA, will discuss fair value, attest reports, the financial reporting framework and will finish strong with some hot topics in the field.

ILLINOIS

NEW YORK

The PCAOB posted an extended report to its website In the Matter of Ernst & Young LLP’s Quality Control Remediation Submission. …KPMG LLP gives high school students lessons in success. The firm partnered with the National Academy Foundation to provide students with the opportunity to learn how to present themselves in the best possible light. On May 1st, KPMG along with Ceridian, an organization involved with human resource development, visited the Susan E. Wagner High School Academy of Finance in Staten Island to show students how they can do just that. … CohnReznick LLP, New York, conducted a study which shows the Community Reinvestment Act as becoming the most powerful engine of capital formation for developing affordable housing in the U.S. According to the study, the CRA’s investment test is largely responsible for motivating U.S. banks to become the largest investors in affordable housing developments. The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants’ Foundation for Accounting Education given 67 New York students the Excellence in Accounting Scholarships for the 2013-2014 school year. Sixty college students received a $2,500 scholarship; three received $1,250 and one received $1,000. Three students who had previously graduated the FAE's Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program each received $10,000 scholarships. TEXAS

The Weaver Private Foundation, Dallas-Fort Worth, named Feed the Children as the Charity of Choice for the fiscal year 2012-13. The foundation contributed a total of $45,000 to the organization in conjunction with local partner agencies in communities where Weaver has offices. Weaver employees participated in volunteer activities supporting local Feed the Children partner agencies across Texas. ... Montgomery Coscia Greilich LLP, Plano, opened a new office in Austin, to better meet the needs of their firm and clients. … The District Court of Travis County has declared various provisions of the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts’ rule on sales and use tax refunds, which requires a wealth of information and documentation, to be invalid and illegal.
