IMA Calls for Management Accounting Research

The Institute of Management Accountants Foundation of Applied Research has issued a call for proposals for new management accounting research from the academic community.

Proposal submissions are accepted on a rolling basis in all related research areas. Submissions will be divided into two tracks: one for academic researchers; the other for doctoral students. This year represents the fifth anniversary of the doctoral student grant program.

IMA’s FAR program provides grant funding to conduct, support, and disseminate relevant management accounting research, covering topics such as budgetary control, knowledge sharing, pay for performance, internal controls, and risk management. FAR funded projects provide publishing opportunities, offer teaching resources for accounting professors, and identify best practices.

The directors who oversee FAR's research activities have established research priorities to address the following questions:

•    How can management accounting and finance best contribute to improving competitiveness and achieving continuous improvement in the enterprise?
•    How does management accounting affect management behavior?

•    What are important emerging cost management and performance measurement techniques and issues?
•    How is globalization affecting management accounting and finance?
•    How is emerging technology being used to improve the effectiveness of management accounting?

“The FAR grant program continues to support timely and relevant research to build the management accounting body of knowledge,” said FAR chair Paul A. Juras. “Since 2005, FAR has distributed more than $500,000 in academic and doctoral grants. These projects will help guide the future of this important and changing profession.”
