Los Angeles (March 8, 2010)

Former rap music mogul Marion "Suge" Knight is facing a tax lien of over $6.5 million that the IRS has filed for the second time in seven years.

The lien against Knight’s 1996 tax return was originally filed in 2003, according to TMZ.com. Knight has fallen on hard times since he lost his record company, Death Row Records, during bankruptcy proceedings in 2006. His seven-bedroom mansion in Malibu was sold in 2008, and last month the storage company that was holding eight crates of his personal belongings auctioned them off after he fell behind on payments.

Knight co-founded Death Row Records in 1991 with rap artist Dr. Dre of the group NWA. The company had a string of hit albums in the 1990s from Dr. Dre, Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg and other artists, but the company’s income declined after Knight was sent to jail in 1996 for parole violation. He was released in 2001.
