IRS Tells Electronic Filers to Update Application Info

Washington, D.C. (February 12, 2013)

By Michael Cohn

The Internal Revenue Service is reminding electronic filers to review their IRS e-file application to make sure the information is still current.

“The IRS can inactivate your Authorized IRS e-file Provider status if we receive undeliverable mail or are unable to contact you,” the IRS wrote in an email to tax professional Monday. “Publication 3112 states that you must revise your e-file application within 30 days of any change.”

The IRS noted that e-file applications need to be updated with any new information for electronic filers such as principals, responsible officials, addresses, phone numbers and URL information.

The IRS said filers should also add a valid e-mail address to their e-file applications so the IRS’s e-services function could contact them when their password expires.

Electronic filing providers may review and update their IRS e-file application information electronically via e-services.
