Man Resigns from Job after Receiving a W-2 Numbered 666

Clarksville, Tenn. (February 7, 2013)

By Michael Cohn

A Tennessee man has quit his job after receiving a W-2 tax form from his employer stamped with the number 666.

Walter Slonopas resigned from the Contech Casting company in Clarksville, Tenn., because the Book of Revelations refers to 666 as the “number of the Beast” and it is often associated with Satan, as in “The Omen” movies.

“If you accept that number, you sell your soul to the devil,” he told The Tennessean. His employer told the newspaper that the number was issued by their payroll company and was simply the order in which the W-2 forms were mailed to employees for doing their taxes.

Ironically, Slonopas, 52, has had other run-ins in the past with the unlucky number. He was given the same number when he began working at the job about a decade ago to use when he clocked in, but when he complained, the human resources department changed it to 668.

But then when they changed their time clock system in July 2011, he again was assigned the number 666, so he resigned.  He came back to work several days later when they changed the numbers for him.
