ARIZONA

Denise Kamber joined Thomson & Company CPA’s & Business Advisors, PC, Phoenix, as a senior tax manager. 

CALIFORNIA

KPMG LLP made several new hires for its alternative investment funds practice. New hires include Martin Griffiths who joined the Los Angeles office as principal in the firm’s federal tax practice. Dan Prager also joined the L.A. office where he will work in the firm’s federal tax AIF practice as a managing director. K. Peter Ritter joined the San Francisco office as principal, also in the federal tax practice. Richard Hinton, also part of the San Francisco office, joined as seconded partner in the firm’s AIF practice while Graeme Fletcher came on board as principal in its international corporate services practice…. Michael Savoy, managing director of Santa Monica-based Gumbiner Savett Inc., has been elected vice president of the California Board of Accountancy for 2013. … Patrick Connolly left his role as a principal in PwC LLP’s international tax services group. Connolly is now a partner in the tax practice of the global law firm, DLA Piper. He will work out of the firm’s L.A. office.

CONNECTICUT

The Financial Accounting Foundation appointed six new members to the Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Council. The new members will serve two-year terms starting January 1, 2013.

The following is a list of the newly appointed members and the constituent organizations that nominated them: James Lanzarotta, partner and National Practice Leader, Government Services

Group, Moss Adams, LLP, representing the AICPA; Robert M. Reardon, Senior Investment Officer, State Farm Insurance, representing insurance industry investors; Gilbert L. Southwell, Vice President & Senior Municipal Analyst, Wells Capital Management, representing the National Federation of Municipal Analysts; Ronald C. Green, Controller, City of Houston, Texas, representing the National League of Cities; Tasha N. Repp, Partner, Tribal Services Group, Moss Adams LLP, representing the Native American Finance Officers Association; Perry E. James, Chief Financial Officer, City of Raleigh, North Carolina, representing the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

 

In addition to the new appointees, the FAF reappointed 10 current members of the GASAC to two-year terms. Four GASAC members–Terrill Menzel, Michael Zaroogian, Randy Riggs, and Ryan Claw–will complete their service at the end of December 2012.

The FAF also elected four new members to FASAC. The new members will serve a one-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2013, and are eligible to be reappointed for three additional one-year terms. The new members include: Dianne H. Russell, Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director, Comerica Bank; Ron Temple, Managing Director and Portfolio Manager/Analyst, Lazard Asset Management LLC; Michael G. Homan, Vice President, Finance & Accounting–Corporate Accounting, The Procter & Gamble Company;Catherine E. Mickle, Chief Financial Officer, American Cancer Society. In addition to naming the new appointees, the FAF renewed the terms of 30 current FASAC members for an additional year. Four FASAC members–William Clark, George Muñoz, Larry Probus, and Shannon Warren–will complete their service at the end of December 2012. The FAF expects to announce one additional appointment before the end of the year. 

DELAWARE

Jordon Rosen a director in the tax and small business department at Belfint, Lyons & Shuman PA, Wilmington, has been elected to the executive committee of the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils.  

MARYLAND

Kimberly Wines, firm administrator and director of HR with Smith Elliott Kearns & Company LLC, Hagerstown, has been awarded the Association-certified Accredited Administrator in Accounting Practice Management by the Association for Accounting Administration. … David P. Dorsey, Scott M. Price and Lawrence R. Beebe, principals at Bond Beebe, Bethesda, each participated in the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans’ 58th Annual Employee Benefits Conference, which took place November 11 – 14, 2012 in San Diego, Calf. 

MASSACHUSETTS

Angela Allen has joined Shepherd & Goldstein LLP, Milford, as a client relationship manager. She will provide tax, accounting, and management consulting services for corporate and individual clients. 

MISSOURI

Kelley Wingbermuehle was promoted to manager at Abeles and Hoffman PC, St. Louis.

 NEW JERSEY

Jay Weinstein, will relocate to New Jersey and assume the new role as partner-in-charge in EisnerAmper LLP’s Metro Park office. 

NEW YORK

Karl Knechtel, Michael Sacco, and Steven Volk of CBIZ MHM LLC, New York, were selected to participate in the CBIZ Emerging Managing Directors Academy. … James Perrino has joined CohnReznick LLP, New York, as partner in the firm’s not-for-profit and education industry practice. Roy Bernardi joined the firm as senior advisor in the firm’s government division. … Gregory Giugliano, Firm wide partner-in-charge of assurance services at Marcum LLP, has been appointed to the SEC Regulations Committee of the AICPA. … Bruce Rosen takes on the role of partner-in-charge in EisnerAmper LLP’s New York office. … Todd Kinney has been appointed to Relationship Director for BDO USA LLP’s, New York, Private Equity practice where he will responsible for implementing BDO’s private equity industry growth strategy as well as raising the Private Equity practice’s visibility. … James Kroeker, former Securities and Exchange Commission Chief Accountant, has joined Deloitte LLP, New York, as deputy managing partner.

NORTH DAKOTA

Eide Bailly LLP held its partnership meeting where they re-elected a few members to the board. Linda Koerselman and James Lyons were re-elected to the firm’s board of directors, both for three-year terms, commencing immediately.

 OHIO

Senior consultant Deborah Defer now heads SS&G’s new platform, QuickBooks consulting services. 

PENNSYLVANIA

Lori F. Reiner is the new partner-in-charge at EisnerAmper LLP, Jenkintown. … Gary Prugh joined the Philadelphia offices of CBIZ MHM LLC as a real estate advisor in the firm’s real estate advisory services group. 

TENNESSEE

Charlotte Cardin has joined Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain PC, Knoxville, as a staff member with the firm’s accounting services department. Prior to LBMC, Cardin worked as a staff accountant at Kimberly Barnett CPA/Paytime Solutions. 

VIRGINIA

Rob Churchman joins Cherry, Bekaert & Holland LLP, Richmond, as an audit partner. In his new role, Churchman will serve as the firm's audit leader in Virginia for the Government Services group. He has more than 23 years of experience serving public sector federal, state and local governments and not-for-profits. … Joseph Pennington joins Elliott Davis LLC, Richmond, as an assurance senior manager. 

WASHINGTON

Mitch Hansen and Pete Miller were elected as the newest shareholder in the audit and assurance practice of Clark Nuber PS, Bellevue. 

WASHINGTON D.C.

Gary Wilcox has joined PwC US as co-leader of the firm's US Tax Controversy and Dispute Resolution practice in the Washington National Tax Services office. … Michael Tryon, a senior partner at Tate & Tryon, was recently appointed to serve on the Audit Committee of the American Academy of Physicians Assistants.  Tryon currently serves on the audit committee of two other organizations including the Council on Foundations and the Wounded Warrior Project. … Meredith Cross, director of the Division of Corporation Finance, will leave the Securities and Exchange Commission SEC at the end of the year to return to the private sector. Cross has served as the Division’s Director since June 2009. She joined Chairman Mary Schapiro’s senior leadership team in the wake of the financial crisis and played a key role in the Chairman’s initiatives to rebuild the agency’s credibility, improve overall operations at the SEC, and build a more resilient, integrated program designed to foresee and reduce the likelihood of future crises in the securities markets. …The Internal Revenue Service selected four new members and a chairperson to the Electronic Tax Administration Advisory Committee. New members include Shaun Barry, Mark Castro, Steven Lewis, Blair Whitworth and Alice Burnett
