CANADA

Sheila Fraser, a Canadian-based chartered accountant, has been appointed as a Trustee of the IFRS Foundation.

 

CONNECTICUT

Jeffrey J. Diermeier, former president and CEO of the CFA Institute, has been elected chairman of the board of trustees of the Financial Accounting Foundation.  Diermeier, who has served on the FAF Board since 2009, succeeds John J. Brennan, chairman emeritus of The Vanguard Group.  Ann Marie Petach, CFO and senior managing director of Blackrock, Inc., has been appointed to the board of trustees.

 SOUTH AFRICA

Professor Wiseman Nkuhlu, a chartered accountant who currently serves as chancellor of the University of Pretoria, has been appointed as a Trustee of the IFRS Foundation. 

GREAT BRITAIN

Stephen Labrum has joined Alvarez & Marsal Taxand, an affiliate of Alvarez & Marsal, in London as managing director and new global head of transfer pricing. Labrum joins the firm from Ernst & Young LLP. 

CALIFORNIA

Tina Babbi has been appointed as vice president of sales at Proformative, an online community and resource for senior level corporate finance, accounting, treasury and related professionals.

Bill Keefe, a partner in the tax service area of Ehrhardt Keefe Steiner & Hottman PC, Denver, has been selected by the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants to receive a 2012 Everyday Hero award.

Kristi Smith has joined Moore Colson, Atlanta, as an associate in the firm’s corporate accounting practice.

Catherine Moy, partner and assurance business line leader at BDO USA, LLPs Boston practice, has been recognized by Working Mother magazine as a 2012 Working Mother of the Year.

MISSOURI

Larry Newell, Abby Heisserer and Maaria Seider of Brown Smith Wallace’s Risk Advisory Services practice in St. Louis, have earned the Qualified Security Assessor certification from the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Security Standards Council.

NEW JERSEY

IMA announced the winners of its 2012 Emerging Scholar and IECJ Case Competition. First place went to Herbert Snyder, James Clifton, and William (Bud) F. Bowlin, of North Dakota State University, Fargo, N.D., for their case titled “Alchemy – An Internal Auditing Case.” Second place went to Bob G. Wood, of Salisbury University, Salisbury, Md.; Steven B. Isbell, of Tennessee Tech University and Cass Larson, of Tennessee Valley Authority, for their case titled “The Tennessee Valley Authority: The Cost of Power.”  And third place went to William (Bud) F. Bowlin, of North Dakota State University, Fargo, N.D., for the case titled “Performance Measurement at Great Persons, Inc.: An Application of the Balanced Scorecard.”

NEW YORK

Joseph Montero has joined Grassi & Co., Jericho, as an audit partner while Matthew Jahrsdoerfer joined as audit principal. Dr. Heidi Miller, former president of international operations and strategy at JPMorgan Chase & Co., has been appointed as a Trustee of the IFRS Foundation. …Juan Rondon, of Rosen Seymour Shapss Martin & Company LLP, New York, has received the Certified Fraud Examiner credential from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. … Anirban Basu, chairman and CEO of Sage Policy Group, Inc., will partner with Marcum LLPs, New York, Construction Industry Group’s leader Joseph Natarelli to produce a quarterly index measuring and tracking the commercial construction industry’s economic health.  The Marcum Commercial Construction Industry Index will launch in November 2012.

NORTH CAROLINA

Scott McKay has joined Cherry, Bekaert & Holland LLP, Raleigh, as partner and has been named practice leader for the firm’s risk advisory services group.

OHIO

Sheri L. Terens and Jill A. Petz joined Corrigan Krause, Westlake. Terens was hired to work on the firm’s benefit auditing team and Petz will work in the firm’s bookkeeping department. … Skoda Minotti, Cleveland, added a few new hires to its staff.  Juliana Hanea joined as staff accountant in the Accounting & Auditing Services group in Mayfield. Karilyn Mader returns to the firm as staff accountant in the Accounting & Auditing Services group in Akron.  Mader interned with Skoda Minotti in the summer of 2011.  She graduated from Miami University’s Farmer School of Business with a B.S. in Accounting. Matt Muccio joins the firm as staff accountant in the Accounting & Auditing Services group in Akron. Will Palmer returns to the firm as staff accountant in the Accounting and Auditing Services group in Mayfield.  Palmer interned with Skoda Minotti in the summer of 2011.  He graduated from Miami University’s Farmer School of Business with a B.S. in Accounting and Business Legal Studies. … Whitney Stacho and Jill Malone have joined Paytime, a payroll processing company located in Solon, Ohio. 

PENNSYLVANIA

Reinsel Kuntz Lesher, York, hired W. Robert Berkebile, Keith Eldredge, Robert D. Gantz and Duane E. Moyer as new partners and Donald B. Dellinger, Jr. has joined as a director.

TENNESSEE

Eli Akers has joined Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC, Knoxville, as a staff member. Michael Ball joined the firm as a network systems engineer. The firm also added Kurt Zollner in its Brentwood (Nashville) office.

WASHINGTON D.C.

Pamela C. Dyson has been named the Deputy Chief Information Officer by the Securities Exchange Committee and will work to modernize and enhance the agency’s information technology systems. The agency also tapped Andrew M. Calamari to serve as director of the New York Regional Office.

WASHINGTON

Clark Nuber PS, Bellevue, made several promotions throughout the firm. Bryan Dean, Scott Haberman, Mandy Statz and Matt Sutorius were promoted to managers. Brandi Fruik, Teresa Hartmeier, Tiffany Kawasaki, Mike Nurse, Matt Schubert, Melissa Stevens and Bonnie Walter moved up to senior positions, while Aaron Jacobs was promoted to director of audit operations.
