Sage One Accepting Direct Payments and Invoicing

Sage North America confirmed that its cloud-based, entry-level accounting product, Sage One, now integrates with both Sage Payment Solutions and PayPal, allowing for more automated payment processing and invoicing.

The integration with Sage Payment Solutions and PayPal officially launched on Jan. 31, 2013, and is available through the application. It essentially allows customers to pay their invoices online with a credit card, debit card, or PayPal account. The ability to accept payments online will significantly decrease the amount of time it takes for business owners to receive payments. The less than year-old product—which is primarily aimed at  zero- to nine-employee businesses—has received regular feedback from users, with the most requested items being the ability to make online payments and perform secure credit card processing, according to senior product manager for SageOne, Alistair Ellis.

“We have been getting constant feedback on the product, and online payments and credit card processing were big," he said. "The key benefit [of the integration] to business owners is that they don’t have to wait for checks by mail. On the other side, business owners can send an email to pay now and customers open up an invoice in SageOne with a Sage Payments button at the bottom. We’re also trying to educate businesses on the benefits of cash flow, and this [integration] allows payments to come in easier and faster.”

Ellis also noted that SageOne currently gets over 1,000 trial users per month.

For $29 per month, businesses can have two administrative users, unlimited collaborative users who can share projects and files, five gigabytes of storage, and support through phone or online.

In related news, the product is beginning to show up in retail stores. Staples in particular has been “selling” the product much the way Microsoft sells some of its software via a tag on a box (rather than a box with installation CDs in it), directing buyers to an electronic purchase of the product. It retails at Staples for $99 per year.
