2nd Story Software, the company that makes TaxAct consumer tax prep software, has introduced a do-it-yourself estate planning software product that lets users draw up a last will and testament after they do their own taxes.
LegalAct Will is aimed at taxpayers who self-prepare their taxes and are interested in taking a similar approach with drawing up a will.
“Tax time is an ideal time for will and estate planning,” said TaxAct president JoAnn Kintzel in a statement. "Life changes impacting your taxes are the same changes that should prompt taxpayers to create or update their wills."
With LegalAct Will, users can create a last will and testament on a computer or tablet in a few steps. After completing an interview-based questionnaire, users are able to preview and edit their wills, then print or download the document.
LegalAct Will allows users to nominate a personal representative to act as an executor; nominate a guardian for their children and a trustee for any property left to them; designate distributions of their personal property, including family heirlooms, and indicate their final wishes for funeral and burial or cremation.
Consumers can purchase LegalAct Will for $9.95 and buy a second copy for a spouse or loved one for $5 more. For more information, visit
