Cloud-based workflow management software provider XCM Solutions LLC has released XCM 8.0, which features enhanced usability, expanded integration, and new functionality that further extends XCM’s utility for all areas across public accounting firms as well as corporate tax, accounting and finance departments.

As part of the latest release, XCM Solutions has also expanded its integration with CCH’s practice management software, through an engine that will also allow for integration with other leading practice management systems. Integration with practice management enables automatic updates to client information within XCM when clients are added or updated within the practice management system.

XCM already integrates with CCH’s ProSystem fx Document, Windows Explorer, and other web-based document management systems.

“Integration is a real key factor for XCM now and in the future, and with this release we are doing that and more, making XCM more efficient,” said XCM chief executive Mark Albrecht. “What we are trying to do is not change processes around, but rather adapt the technology to mirror the way CPA firms process work in the firm, taking away the paper and the unstructured data and putting it in one central location.”

Albrecht noted the key features of the new release include workflow mapping, which allows users to standardize all processes, while providing the flexibility to change based on task-specific requirements. The software also features expanded bulk update capabilities that allow users to more easily add information to multiple tasks simultaneously. New auto-fill capability in key fields simplifies searching.

“We are driving the standardization of processes in an accounting firm,” said Albrecht. “Everyone at the firm processes things in a different way, be it a tax return or whatever. One way to use technology efficiently is to get everyone on the same page, agree on one way, and use the technology to drive the standardization. With XCM 8.0, a key utility exists that can map your workflows. Think about a tax return. There’s a process: You scan, prep, review, assemble, sign and ship. Within the application, we can map that workflow so everyone is processing that task in the same manner.”

As for integration beyond the CCH product suite, Albrecht said XCM is looking into integration with other cloud-based accounting products including its partners within the CPA2Biz Trusted Business Advisor Solutions program. These include Copanion, Intacct, Bill.com and Capital Confirmation.
