1-800Accountant, the national accounting firm specializing in small businesses, has signed on as a distributor of the Small Business WorkbenchSM, a new, easy-to-use online and mobile cash forecasting and working capital tool designed especially for small businesses. Raich Ende Malter & Co. LLP participated in the Child Center of NY’S Candy Cane Project this holiday season. Employees donated over $2,000 to purchase holiday presents for 126 children who are enrolled in the Child Center of NY’s Early/Head Start program. … CohnReznick LLP conducted a survey titled “Housing Credit Property Performance: A Performance Update Analysis.” The report found that the low-income housing tax credit has enjoyed a universal improvement in property performance, confirmed a survey collecting data from thirty-two housing tax credit syndicators and three of the nation’s largest affordable housing investors. The detailed report follows a long-term effort by CohnReznick to measure the performance of housing tax credit properties. This most recent study is the third in a series of reports published over the past four years. An earlier study published in 2012, The Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program at Year 25: An Expanded Look at Its Performance, reported a widespread critical shortage of affordable rental housing across the country. TEXAS

PwC US opened a custom-designed seven story office space in the Wells Fargo Plaza, located in the heart of Houston's downtown area at 1000 Louisiana Street. PwC's new space spans 170,000 square feet and houses more than 1,400 employees. The building offers sky lobbies on the 34/35th and 58/59th floors, which boast stunning views of downtown Houston, and offers its people direct access from the street to the Houston tunnel system connecting many of downtown Houston's offices, shops and local amenities. … Grant Thornton LLP has relocated its Dallas office within Comerica Bank Tower at 1717 Main St. to floors 17 and 18 from floors 14 and 15. The firm also continues to occupy part of floor 12. The total space leased is 60,560 square feet.

VIRGINIA

The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants held the 2014 VSCPA Leadership Academy for young professionals from Nov. 17–19, 2014, at the CPA Center in Glen Allen. Twenty-five young CPAs were selected to attend the event. The annual program was designed for young professionals to find out what leadership looks like in today’s accounting world and benefit from other young leaders’ experiences; to determine the skills, talents and qualities they already possess and learn how to use them to cultivate leadership; to identify leadership values that can be used to lead their firm or company to a bright future; and to walk away with broadened leadership skills to carve their own leadership path and protect the future of the CPA profession.
