AICPA and Ad Council launch new financial literacy game

The AICPA and the Ad Council announced on Wednesday the launch of a new online game, Yesterday’s Tomorrow. The game focuses on financial decisions that will impact young people for the rest of their lives and is part of the two organizations' public service campaign, "Feed the Pig."

The game comes on the heels of new research that found that approximately two-thirds of millennials see benefits in playing digital games because they're important in helping them learn. Another seven in ten feel games help them better learn how to solve problems.

Yesterday’s Tomorrow helps young adults realize the importance of making positive financial decisions early in life, and shows the long-term benefits of being financially savvy,” stated Gregory Anton, chair of the AICPA’s National CPA Financial Literacy Commission. “With Yesterday’s Tomorrow, the Feed the Pig campaign is utilizing gamification to help millennials set themselves up for future financial success.”

The game was the result of the AICPA, Ad Council and Games for Change's "Feed the Pig Challenge" in 2016, which asked game designers to submit entries focused on getting young people to save and make smart financial decisions. Yesterday’s Tomorrow was the winning entry, submitted by Scott Garner, who presented it to a panel of judges at the Tribeca Film Festival’s Games and Media Summit.
