The American Institute of CPAs announced that it has awarded 10 graduating high school students its inaugural AICPA Foundation High School Scholarship. Each student will receive $2,000 to be used towards their future education.
The scholarship is available to students who have successfully completed the AICPA’s Accounting Program for Building the Profession: Advanced High School Accounting course, also known as the Accounting Pilot and Bridge Program. Under the program, high school educators teach an advanced accounting curriculum with the hope that more students will go on to study the profession in college and beyond.
Scholarship winners must be attending a two or four-year accredited college/university full-time and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. Students are nominated by an educator or school counselor via the AICPA’s Start Here, Go Places site, or by a current AICPA member.
“The AICPA created this scholarship to recognize outstanding high school students and help them along their path to the profession as they begin their college studies,” said Joanne Fiore, Association of International CPAs vice president of professional media, academic and student engagement, per a statement. “The scholarship also serves as a commitment from the AICPA to continue to develop the Advanced High School Accounting course as a feeder of talented high school students to college accounting programs and, ultimately, CPA licensure.”
The 2017 AICPA Foundation High School Scholarship winners, along with their college destinations, are as follows:

- Kaylee Johnson, Summertown High School, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
- Andrew Kozan, Salem High School, Siena Heights University
- Alexandra Lamoree, Farragut High School, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
- Hayley Newman, Silver Creek High School, Indiana University
- Alec Olinger, Silver Creek High School, University of Southern Indiana
- Luke Quinney, Jim Ned High School, Texas A&M University
- Scott Rothschild, Council Rock High School North, George Washington University
- Ronald Walton, Central High School, Middle Tennessee State University
- Lauren Zambon, Canton High School, Central Michigan University
