AICPA announces new CPA Exam technology

The American Institute of CPAs announced on Thursday that it is ready to launch new technology for the Uniform CPA Examination, aiming to give test-takers a more modern user interface and exam tools.

Effective April 1, 2018 at Prometric test centers around the world, the AICPA's updates look to recreate true-to-life CPA situations and environments for the exam. Updates will include the addition of a 23-inch high-definition monitor, Microsoft Excel as an exam tool, and a new on-screen “workspace” to review exam documents.

“These improvements and updates to the CPA Exam software and tools will modernize the candidate’s testing experience,” stated Michael Decker, vice president of examinations at the Association of International CPAs. “Beyond that, this is an investment in the future of the exam that will increase our ability to make changes to both the technology and content. This added flexibility will help ensure that the exam remains aligned with the work being done in the profession.”

The AICPA has also added tutorials and samples to familiarize candidates with the exam software updates on its site here.

The software updates will impact the release of exam score releases, but is expected to return to the traditional rolling score release by Q1 2019. A Score Release Timeline can be found on the AICPA's site here.
