IIA Names Global Chairman and Board

The Institute of Internal Auditors has elected PricewaterhouseCoopers partner Anton van Wyk, a native of South Africa, as chairman of the IIA’s 2014-2015 Global Board of Directors.

Van Wyk is the first global chairman from Africa. His election and that of the entire global board was held at the IIA’s annual business meeting following the organization’s 73rd International Conference in London.

“Anton is a dynamic and enthusiastic leader in our profession, and I’m certain he will accomplish great things during his tenure as global chairman,” said IIA president and CEO Richard Chambers in a statement.

Van Wyk said he plans to use his term as chairman to urge internal auditors worldwide to be mindful of potential gaps between internal audit services and stakeholder expectations. New technologies, he said, are creating new opportunities as well as risks that could expand such gaps.

“As we rise to meet new challenges, we must focus on the opportunities that will help us overcome these obstacles,” said van Wyk. “We must focus on becoming better prepared, better informed, and fully engaged with stakeholders.”

Van Wyk, has 25 years of experience in corporate governance, risk management and internal audit.
