Becker awards $485K in 2018 scholarships

Becker Professional Education announced on Tuesday that 240 CPA students have received $485,000 in full or partial scholarship funds for 2018, courtesy of the Newton D. Becker Scholarship Program. The scholarships will go towards Becker's CPA Exam Review course.

Qualified scholarship applicants must meet the requirements to sit for the CPA Exam at the time of enrollment, demonstrate financial need, and submit a statement wishing to advance the traits of the scholarship's namesake, including "high moral character, strong leadership qualities, and commitment to community service."

“At Becker, we are thrilled to provide nearly a half million in scholarship funds to candidates striving to attain their CPA credential,” stated Michael Malee, president of Becker Professional Education. “This scholarship program is an excellent way to carry on Newton’s legacy by enabling dedicated students and professionals across the country to pursue the gold standard in the profession: the CPA credential.”

The program honors the memory of Newton D. Becker, who founded Becker Professional Education in 1957, continuing his legacy of helping promising students and professionals earn CPA licensure to better their careers.

“I had been trying to figure out the best path to pursue from this point forward regarding my accounting career, and this scholarship answered all of those unknowns,” said Bryan Jones, a 2018 Becker scholarship recipient, per a statement. “I cannot properly express how much this means after the financial investment and sacrifices my wife, two teenage boys and myself made for me to undertake my undergraduate and graduate school degrees.”
