CalCPA presents service awards

The California Society of CPAs announced this week that the organization has honored three professionals and a Sacramento accounting firm for their service to both the accounting profession and the general public.

William Harrison of Harrison Accounting Group received the Society's Public Service Award for his work with nonprofits and his local community to increase affordable housing in southern Alameda County. He additionally helped open a warming center in the county for individuals in need.

Sacramento firm Gilbert Associates was recognized with the Firm Public Service Award for its encouragement of staff to get involved with their local communities. In all, Gilbert staff members volunteered approximately 1,200 hours for 50 organizations over the last year.

Donald Driftmier of Ontario accepted the Distinguished Service Award for his range of activities and leadership positions held in the organization since 1971. Notably, Driftmier was appointed in 2004 by then Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to the California Board of Accountancy, where he was named CPA president in 2008.

Lastly, Nancy Mangold of Hayward received the Outstanding Educator Award for her work at California State University, East Bay, where she also serves as chair of the accounting and finance department. Mangold additionally helped launch the University's master of science in accountancy program in 2013, as well as developing the program's curriculum that covered both the CPA Exam and California CPA licensure material.
