CPAmerica marks 40th anniversary

CPAmerica International is celebrating its 40th anniversary as the association continues to expand in the U.S. and reaches out abroad.

The association now has 76 firms, according to CPAmerica president Alan Deichler. Another 175 firms are part of CPA Connect, a companion alliance of sole practitioners and small independent CPA firms. CPAmerica also has a worldwide reach through its own membership in the Crowe Horwath International network, which rebranded last week as Crowe Global (see Crowe drops Horwath from its brand).

“We’re an association that’s a member of a network,” said Deichler.

CPAmerica has been encouraging its member firms to get more involved in advanced technology and formed an Innovative Technology Group last fall. “Everybody is concerned about audit technology,” said Deichler. Some of the mid-tier firms are even considering sharing their data to help them develop data analytics that can rival the kind of software in use at larger auditing firms, but they also want to be careful to safeguard sensitive client information.

The eight members of the group are looking at some of the existing technology solutions available from various providers, including CPA.com and Receipt Bank.

CPAmerica offers its member firms a Preferred Provider Program with preferential pricing on hardware, software, CPE, research and various types of services.

Networking and support are also important to members. The association is helping newly minted managing partners at its member firms with a New Leading Partner Group that includes people have become MPs within the past four years. Similarly, a New Partner Group is for people who have made partner in the past three or four years.

“We’ve had to implement a graduation ceremony because people didn’t want to leave,” said CPAmerica vice president of services Grace Horvath.

CPAmerica also offers its members a series of events and meetings around the country, including a Next Generation conference this week in Denver and an A&A Conference and Technology Roundtable next month in Bal Harbour, Florida.
