Dean Dorton adds Massey Consulting

Dean Dorton Allen Ford PLLC, a Regional Leader firm based in Lexington, Kentucky, has merged in Massey Consulting, a consulting firm in Raleigh, North Carolina, that specializes in accounting software and services, effective Jan. 1, 2019.

The team from Massey Consulting will join Dean Dorton’s technology consulting practice to help accounting software implementation and integration.

In recent months, Dean Dorton has been expanding several of its practice areas, including the establishment of a new Dean Dorton Wealth Management unit as an independent, registered investment advisor offering retirement planning, investment consulting, portfolio management, and other financial planning services. In addition, the firm’s Dean Dorton Technology unit recently launched a full-service cybersecurity practice. Dean Dorton was recently named to Sage Intacct’s President’s Club for excellence as a value-added reseller, implementation and support services of cloud-based accounting systems.

The merger with Massey Consulting marks the first time Dean Dorton has expanded beyond Kentucky. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Dean Dorton ranked 11th on Accounting Today’s 2018 Regional Leaders list for the Top Firms in the Southeast, with $28.71 million in annual revenue.

“Merging with Massey Consulting increases our robust accounting software solutions team and provides an opportunity to serve clients in a broader regional area as well as expanding our capabilities nationally,” said Dean Dorton president and CEO David Bundy in a statement. “We continue to stay true to our culture, which is to pursue opportunities for mergers only if the fit is right for our team members, our clients and the timing makes sense for the firm. As we continue to see higher-than-average organic growth year over year, we recognize that our presence is no longer regional but growing rapidly as a nationally recognized firm.”

Massey Consulting president Phillip Massey saw advantages in combining with Dean Dorton. “Massey Consulting has had tremendous growth throughout the past 15 years in the Raleigh and greater Charlotte area,” he said in a statement. “Our clients’ needs always come first. With the combination of developing client needs and continuous growth, it was critical for us to find a way to continue providing high-quality service while providing clients with additional value through a broader range of specialty capabilities, advice, and solutions. In addition, we want to offer more opportunities for our employees and referral partners who are the backbone of our business. In assisting clients with accounting software selection and implementation firsthand, we have seen companies flourish with an increased speed of every finance and accounting process, driving faster revenue and influencing timely conversations to improve performance. We look forward to continuing to serve organizations from nonprofits to large public entities and provide innovative financial and business strategies to help our clients succeed now and in the future. The values of Dean Dorton, their founders, partners and team, combined with their culture of being true business advisors to clients make this a great endeavor for Massey Consulting.”
