Deloitte Acquires Crisis Management Firm

Deloitte has acquired Urgentis Digital Crisis Solutions Inc., a Calgary, Canada-based firm that helps companies prepare for and respond to cybersecurity events.

Deloitte’s Canadian firm plans to combine the crisis management firm with its nationwide cybersecurity practice to improve its ability to help companies protect their information assets from sophisticated cybersecurity risks.

“We’re pleased to join forces with Urgentis, which has established itself as a leader in digital crisis management,” said Paul Zonneveld, Deloitte’s enterprise risk services managing partner for Western Canada, in a statement. “Companies are vulnerable to a variety of cybersecurity risks, whether it’s a hacker, a competitor engaging in industrial espionage, or a disgruntled employee stealing trade secrets. With the addition of the Urgentis team, Deloitte’s Cybersecurity group has significantly enhanced its strength in preventing and responding to security threats.”

Urgentis specializes in investigating and responding to cybersecurity incidents, such as virus attacks or network intrusions, using data analytics and investigative techniques. It also provides cybersecurity services to help companies strengthen their information security and safeguard their data.

“We’re excited to be combining our skilled professionals and technology infrastructure with Deloitte's cybersecurity group,” said Urgentis Digital Crisis Solutions founder Philip Fodchuk. “Urgentis was created to help organizations respond to crises and prevent future ones. This transaction enables us to take the quantum leap in delivering much broader crisis management solutions.”

Deloitte’s Corporate Development Office supported the acquisition. “This transaction demonstrates our ongoing commitment to help companies manage the rapidly expanding range of cybersecurity risks,” said Deloitte corporate development officer Alexandre Baril. “We welcome the industry experience and expertise of the Urgentis team.”
