FLORIDA

The Institute of Internal Auditors, Altamonte Springs, celebrated its 75th anniversary at its International Conference in New York. At the meeting, it gave out a number of awards: Lancelot H. Giles, a graduate student at The University of Texas at Dallas, received the 2016 Esther R. Sawyer Award for his essay, “Achieving and Maintaining Professional Competency as an Internal Auditor in a High-Change Environment;” Michael Levy, Anthony Leusner and Khalid Wasti received the John B. Thurston Award for Literary Excellence for their article, “Putting the Squeeze on Social Media;” Denny Beran received the Bradford Cadmus Memorial Award, which recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions in research, education, publications, or other developments and activities in the field of internal auditing; Patricia Miller received the William G. Bishop III Lifetime Achievement Award; and Michelle Hale earned the William S. Smith Gold Award for earning the highest overall score on the CIA exam in 2015. The institute also donated $10,000 to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum during the conference.

 

ILLINOIS

Sikich LLP, Naperville, has been named 2016 US SMB Champions Club Heartland Partner of the Year and 2016 US SMB Champions Club Heartland Influencer Partner of the Year by Microsoft’s U.S. Small and Midsized Business Champions Club.

IOWA

Honkamp Krueger & Co. PC has been named the Best Accounting Firm in Iowa’s Creative Corridor in an annual survey of the readers of the Corridor Business Journal.

JAPAN

Confirmation.com has opened an office in Japan. Matthew Grace has joined the company to lead the company’s initiative for Japan.

MARYLAND

Rose Financial Services, Rockville, has been named 2016’s Most Innovative Accountancy Firm by Acquisition International Magazine.

 

MISSOURI

Mueller Prost, St. Louis, has launched a Young Professionals Group. The idea was researched and created by staff accountant Tim O’Neill. Find out more here.

NEW YORK

The Bonadio Group, Rochester, has released the results of its 2016 Upstate New York Contractors State of the Industry Study. Since the firm’s last survey in 2014, the construction industry in upstate New York has seen positive improvements, the firm reported. Among other things, companies have put a greater emphasis on boosting productivity, with 54 percent of firms saying they noted an increase in 2015. OHIO

The Ohio Society of CPAs has teamed up with CPA Trendlines Research and Michael Ramos + Associates to conduct an extensive study of CPAs’ learning plans, attitudes and behaviors. The study is already underway. Separately, the society released a white paper to state leaders outlining a series of tax changes CPAs believe will drive a more competitive business environment in Ohio. The recommendations are the work of the society’s Ohio Tax Reform Task Force.

RHODE ISLAND

The Rhode Island Society of CPAs is hosting its 25th Annual Golf Tournament on July 25, 2016 at the Warwick Country Club. Over 140 golfers are participating in the tournament this year, which will beneift Community Preparatory School, an independent school in South Providence that serves a culturally and economically diverse student body, where over 96 percent of students receive substantial financial aid.

 

TENNESSEE

The Rainmaker Cos., Nashville, named the recipients of its 2016 SuperConference Five Star Awards: MRPR received the Top Enterprise Worldwide Firm of the Year Award; Frank Rowella of Reynolds & Rowella received the Top Enterprise Worldwide Brand Ambassador Award; Liz Koehler, of Elements Advisors & CAs, received the Top Enterprise Worldwide Firm Administrator Award; Weyrich, Cronin & Sorra received the Top Enterprise Worldwide Firm Marketing Initiative Award; Richards Witt & Charles received the Auto Dealer CPAs Niche Member Firm of the Year Award; Pearce Bevill Leesburg Moore received the HCAA Niche Member Firm of the Year Award; Rea & Associates received the Manufacturing CPAs Niche Member Firm of the Year Award; Councilor Buchanan & Mitchell received the Nonprofit CPAs Niche Member Firm of the Year Award; and Ryan & Wetmore received the Real Estate and Construction CPAs Firm of the Year Award.

UNITED KINGDOM

International network of accounting and consulting firms Nexia International has released a survey examining the implementation of proposals under the OECD’s Action Plans on Base Erosion Profit Shifting in 27 countries.

 

WISCONSIN

Wipfli LLP, Milwaukee, has been named to the 2016 Inner Circle for Microsoft Dynamics.
