Gallina LLP announced plans to merge its Sacramento Region offices: Effective Dec. 1, its Rancho Cordova office will move to the firm headquarters in Roseville.

MICHIGAN

The Michigan Association of CPAs announced its 2016-2017 Board of Directors: Betsy Meter of KPMG will serve as chair; Alan Young of Alan C. Young and Associates PC as chair-elect; Robert Johnson of Dynatrace as treasurer; and David Echelbarger of Echelbarger Himebaugh Tamm & Co. PC as secretary. In addition, Marianne Lilly, Leon LaBrecque and Laurie Horvath were named directors. MICPA also announced the winners of the awards that it will give out at its annual dinner on Oct. 5: Gordon E. Krater of Plante Moran will receive the Distinguished Achievement Award; Beth A. Bialy, of Plante Moran, and Douglas P. Roosa, of General Motors Corp., the Distinguished Service Award; Betty Maple, of Maple Properties Group LLC, the Diversity and Inclusion Award; Monica Silwanowicz, of ShindelRock, the Emerging Leader Award; Peggy Bishop, of Beene Garter, the Public Service Award; and Tim Christen, of Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, the Outstanding Visionary Award.

 

NEBRASKA

Grant Thornton LLP has expanded its office in the Linden Place business center at 14301 First National Bank Parkway in Omaha. Employees began work in the new office on Sept. 26.

 

NEW JERSEY

Christine Granata CPA LLC has relocating its offices from Sea Girt, to the Tomaro Professional Center at 1704 Maxwell Drive in Wall Township.

NEW YORK

Gettry Marcus CPA PC has signed a lease to move to a 13,800 square foot office space at 1407 Broadway, New York City, on Jan. 1, 2017. It is consolidating its two New York City offices. … A number of accounting and tax firms were named to Working Mother’s list of the 2016 100 Best Companies. (See the story.) … On Sept. 29, more than 23,000 EY professionals participated in EY Connect Day. (See the story.) … The Alternative Investment Group of Marcum LLP announced its inaugural Marcum Alternative Investment Manager Forum, scheduled for Nov. 2 in New York City. It will be co-presented with Cowen Prime Services and Marino Partners LLP. Economist and commentator Lawrence Kudlow will be the keynote speaker.

TENNESSEE

Confirmation.com, Brentwood, has been named a finalist for the 2016 NEXT Awards in the Technology Market Mover Category. … The American Institute of CPAs has partnered with state CPA societies on a program to increase the number of high school educators trained to teach higher order accounting courses across the country. The National Society of Accountants gave out a number of awards at its 71th Annual Meeting: Commissioner John Koskinen was named NSA Person of the Year; Robert Thoma, of Thoma & Associates Ltd., was named Accountant of the Year; Susan Robertson, of 3rd Generation Accounting, received the Distinguished Service Award; John O. Everett, a professor emeritus at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, was named Speaker of the Year; the Arizona Association of Accounting and Tax Professionals was named Affiliated State Organization of the Year; Ron Grafman received the Norma Kraus Award; Erin Nebbin received the newly created NSA Young Professional of the Year Award; the North Carolina Society of Accountants and its publication, The Accountant, received the Keith Billings Memorial Award; Ken Brauer received the new ASO Monitoring and Legislative Achievement Award; the Georgia Association of Accountants and Tax Professionals and the Maryland Society of Accounting and Tax Professionals tied for the Charles W. McAllister Award for most new members in the past year; Frank Stitely received the Golden Quill Award; the New Hampshire Tax and Accounting Professionals and the Pennsylvania Society of Tax & Accounting Professionals won Outstanding ASO Website Awards; and Marina Hernandez received the Outstanding Tax Talker Award.
