ALABAMA

Warren Averett was named one of Business Alabama’s Best Companies to Work For in Alabama. Business Alabama and Best Companies Group announced the 2015 Best Companies to Work For in Alabama winners during a reception at the Hyatt Regency – Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover on Aug. 4. Each company was evaluated based upon surveys of both employers and employees. Employers were asked to provide basics about their companies, as well as information on benefits, incentives, community service initiatives and policies. Employees were surveyed anonymously and answered open-ended questions on what makes a good place to work, what would help them in their performances and what would make the job more satisfying.

BRAZIL

Andersen Global has ventured into São Paulo and Campinas, Brazil with the addition of INOVV Consultores Associados. After joining the Andersen Family, INOVV will be known as Andersen Tax in Brazil. INOVV is the third member firm to adopt the name and the first to join Andersen Global in South America.

CALIFORNIA

Armanino LLP has been named to the prestigious 2015 Microsoft Dynamics Inner Circle for the fourth consecutive year. It also marks nearly a decade of continuous Microsoft Dynamics Presidents Club membership. Members of the Microsoft Dynamics Inner Circle have performed to a high standard of excellence by delivering valuable solutions that help organizations achieve greater success. In addition, Armanino worked alongside lead acid battery recycler Aqua Metals (Nasdaq:AQMS) as the independent auditor of record during their recent IPO. … Silicon Valley-based consulting firm RoseRyan announced its Revenue recognition strategy service to help companies quickly create their game plan for moving to the new revenue recognition standard. The new accounting pronouncement, first issued in May of 2014, will overhaul the way companies account for revenue. Dates for complying with the new standard, which uses an entirely new principles-based approach to recognizing revenue, were recently pushed back until 2018 for public companies, and RoseRyan’s service helps companies affected by the rules strategize on timing and next steps.

CONNECTICUT

Reynolds and Rowella has launched the Reynolds and Rowella Academy. The program will provide leadership training for Reynolds and Rowella’s professional staff with the goal of cultivating their talents as leaders to develop their personal growth and, ultimately, the growth of the firm. ILLINOIS

The Midwest Accounting and Finance Show, will be hosted by the Illinois CPA Society on Wednesday, August 26 and Thursday, August 27. It will have more than 2,000 accounting professionals attending. The Show features keynote presentations, including The Art of the Steal with best-selling author and the inspiration for the movie Catch Me If You Can, Frank Abagnale, and educational sessions that range from strategies for confronting regional, national and global business challenges to enhancing leadership and development skills. MASSACHUSETTS

Summer campers are enjoying the great outdoors at Camp Clark in Plymouth, MA thanks in part to the efforts of Rodman & Rodman P.C. Rodman & Rodman has been a long-time supporter of Camp Clark, an Old Colony YMCA sponsored recreation camp for children. Prior to the start of the 2015 camp season, Rodman & Rodman's team of 18 spent a full day landscaping Camp Clark to ready it for more than 400 youth campers who attend each week. The team cleaned up the beach and spread 80 yards of wood chips, 10 yards of mulch and plenty of sand.

MICHIGAN

During the weeks of June 15 to June 30, employees from UHY LLP’s Michigan practice in conjunction with UHY Cares, purchased and sported nearly 200 pairs of red and white socks to be a part of the “Ronald Sock Challenge”. The challenge is both an awareness campaign and fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southeast Michigan. The certified public accounting firm raised over $3,000 in employee donations in just over a week. With UHY adding to the success of the challenge, the total amount raised by companies across Michigan is close to $20,000.

NEW JERSEY

CPA Associates International, Inc. has admitted three new members: Karlins Ramey & Tompkins, LLC of The Woodlands, Texas (3 partners, 27 total personnel); FIACYCPA, S.A. of Managua, Nicaragua (6 partners, 23 total personnel); and Taeyul Accounting Corporation, Ltd. of Seoul, South Korea (17 partners, 97 total personnel). … CohnReznick hosted approximately 100 executive women at its Sixth Annual Executive Women’s Forum golf event on July 28, 2015 – its largest turnout to date. The event, which is designed for all levels of golfers was held at the Jumping Brook Golf Club in Neptune, NJ and offered networking, lunch, a choice of a hands-on clinic or nine-hole game, followed by a cocktail reception. During the luncheon, the attendees were treated to a presentation on tips for playing golf by Maria Aprile, a CohnReznick partner, avid golfer, and past president of the Executive Women’s Golf Association in the Northern New Jersey Chapter.

NEW YORK

Thomson Reuters launched the Corporate CPE Network subscription to help corporate professionals acquire up-to-date information, recommendations and best practices needed to understand, plan for, and implement new tax law and accounting requirements. Thomson Reuters Corporate CPE Network is a video-based program providing training via DVDs or streaming videos along with supplemental training materials. Each monthly issue will focus on different subjects relevant to the educational needs of tax, accounting, and finance professionals that work in a corporate setting, helping them obtain or update skills necessary to succeed in today’s fast-paced business environment. Topics include accounting and financial reporting, tax planning and implementation of new tax laws, governance and risk, sustainability, decision making and negotiation, managing different generations, employee benefits, best practices, change management and more. … Did you know: Enrollments in undergraduate and graduate accounting programs have increased in the 2013-14 academic year, and have combined to cross the 250,000 threshold for the first time. On the recruiting side, accounting firms hired a record number of accounting graduates in 2014, representing a seven percent increase from the previous survey. That’s according to the 2015 Trends in the Supply of Accounting Graduates and Demand for Public Accounting Recruits report, released today by the American Institute of CPAs. The Trends report found optimism from both universities and firms that the growth of the accounting profession will continue. Ninety-seven percent of bachelor’s programs and seventy percent of master’s programs report that they expect their enrollment to be the same or higher within two years of responding to the survey. Building upon the record levels of hiring, 91 percent of firms reported that they expect to hire at the same or an increased level in the following year. Larger firms are particularly optimistic about future hiring, with all firms employing over 200 CPAs reporting that their hiring will either increase or stay the same in the next year. This indicates that job prospects for current enrollees in accounting programs as well as recent graduates remains extremely bright.

Halt, Buzas & Powell began holding the symposium in 2002 as a way to educate nonprofit board members, CFOs, and Executive Directors on updates in the accounting world as well as other hot industry topics. Now the most heavily attended firm event, the symposium joins nonprofit organizations with industry experts who present on current issues and trends that affect the community and aim to benefit the growth and prosperity of their organizations. The event is held twice a year in both Alexandria, VA and Baltimore, MD and represents upward of 180 nonprofits in the Washington DC Metropolitan area.
