FLORIDA

Wiebel, Hennells & Carufe PLLC, Bonita Springs, has joined CPAsNET, a network of accounting firms. … Myers, Brettholtz & Co. PA, Fort Myers, drew more than 100 attendees to its 14th Annual Nonprofit Seminar on January 20.

ILLINOIS

Crowe Horwath LLP, Chicago, has rolled out a new mobility strategy, with two policies: “What to Wear,” which allows staff who aren’t meeting with clients to “keep it casual” and wear jeans, and “Where to Work,” which allows personnel to work wherever it’s convenient and they’re most productive, with support from their performance manager. … Kessler Orlean Silver & Co. PC, Deerfield, has developed a Personnel Committee to discuss personnel-related issues, policies and procedures and other performance and talent management issues, which has implemented a new dress code where all employees working in the office and not meeting with clients will be able to wear jeans Monday through Friday.

MARYLAND

[IMGCAP(1)]The Maryland Association of CPAs gathered more than 130 CPAs in Annapolis for CPA Day 2016, which included legislative briefings, meetings between members and their district delegates and senators, and a legislative luncheon. This year featured special guest Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford. The group discussed four key topics with legislators:

  • Support a lower cap for small business on supersedeas bonds (appeal bond cap).
  • Support conforming Maryland tax due dates to the new federal due dates.
  • Oppose sales tax on professional services.
  • Support retaining the contributory negligence rule; oppose any change to comparative negligence.

 

MASSACHUSETTS

Rodman CPAs will offer a 90-minute "New Year Checklist" QuickBooks Seminar on February 10 at its offices in Waltham. The fee for the seminar is $45. Participants can register on Rodman’s Eventbrite page.
