GEORGIA

For the second year in a row, Wolters Kluwer, CCH Small Firm Services was named one of the Top 50 medium-sized call centers in North America as part of the 2015 Top 100 Call Center awards by BenchmarkPortal. This competition compares the performance of contact centers across North America by evaluating their key metrics against industry peers. Entries are all cross-checked, validated and approved by certified call center experts, and resulting submissions are scored on both quality and cost efficiency.

ILLINOIS

The Illinois CPA Society’s inaugural Jumpstart to Accounting program welcomed more than 100 college students and professors from more than 30 colleges and universities across the state of Illinois on April 24.

This award is a testament to the altruism and philanthropic activity the firm practices on a daily basis by giving back to the community. We were humbled by this recognition, but would like to share it, as it is an award for which we are extremely proud. … New York’s Tax Freedom Day, the day when taxpayers in the state have collectively earned enough money to pay their federal, state, and local tax bill for the year, will arrive on May 8. This makes it the 48th state to reach Tax Freedom Day in 2015. According to the annual report by the nonpartisan Tax Foundation, national Tax Freedom Day falls on April 24, 114 days into the year and nine days after the tax filing Sdeadline. Each state’s total federal, state, and local tax burden varies greatly. Tax Freedom Day arrives earliest in Louisiana on April 2 and Mississippi on April 4. Connecticut and New Jersey will be the last to reach Tax Freedom Day this year on May 13.

RHODE ISLAND

The University of Rhode Island-based SBDC and RISCPA are offering a series of professional seminars, entitled “The Smart Owner Series,” at RISCPA’s CPA training facility. The seminars are open to any small business owner, manager or business professional or manager, which will take place at RISCPA’s training facility at 40 Sharpe Drive, Unit 5 in Cranston. All programs will run from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with the exception of the business planning class that will run from 8:30 to 12:00 noon.
