Georgia CPAs Appoint Barbara Evans to Chair Board

The Georgia Society of CPAs has named Barbara Evans, the former CFO of Thomas Concrete Inc., as the new chair of the GSCPA’s board of directors, for fiscal year 2016-2017.

She was appointed at the GSCPA’s Annual Convention on June 19-22 in the Bahamas and will serve a one-year term.

“Barbara brings nearly 40 years of industry experience to the GSCPA Board of Directors,” said Georgia Society of CPAs CEO Boyd Search in a statement. “Her long and successful career in finance and management along with her devotion to volunteerism make her an ideal chair for the Society.”

Evans plans to expand the GSCPA’s diversity and inclusion efforts during her term and to develop programs to encourage students of all ages to pursue careers as CPAs. “We need to encourage more students to take the CPA exam,” said Evans. “The exam is hard, but I know if I can do it, many others can, too.”

She has been a member of the GSCPA for 18 years and served as a director on the board of directors and the GSCPA Council, chairperson of the Minority Issues Committee, and vice chair of the Annual Convention Task Force. Her awards have included the GSCPA Outstanding Member in Industry Award (2014), the GSCPA Distinguished Committee Chair Award (2003-2004), and the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Founders Trophy Award (2001-2002).

Evans is a Chartered Global Management Accountant, a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the South Carolina Association of CPAs and the West Virginia Association of CPAs.
